21st October 2018

From my 1st appointment through to my surgery on 12th October 2018 with Mr Clemens Von Widekind his professional expertise, understanding and kind manner helped me through the process of having my operation. The surgery was without any problems and to my amazement left me with very little pain and discomfort. The three very small entry points for the keyhole surgery i'm sure will be virtually unnoticeable when fully healed. The care I received from Mr Clemens Von Widekind and the staff at the Three Shires Hospital was wonderful and above my expectations. I cannot thank him enough for what he has done for me.

Mr Von Widekind came highly recommend to me, and I have been so confident and extremely comfortable in his care. He is an incredibly skilled surgeon and carried out a complex surgery on me with fantastic results. I felt immediately at ease on meeting with him at my initial consultation and felt very much part of the decision on how to proceed with the treatment I needed. Everything was explained in detail along with drawn diagrams to ensure I fully understood what was going on in my body. I never feel rushed at appointments and am always given the opportunity to ask as many questions as I need to. I cannot recommend Mr Von Widekind enough, he is not only an expert in his field, but also a very kind and caring professional who has his patients health and best interests at heart the whole time.

I had an internal scan which he made very awkward by giving little instruction on where I should be and when to get dressed again etc. He did not greet me or even really talk to me about why I was there or about my symptoms and was told to go away and come back in three months to see if the symptoms 'go away on their own'. After having the symptoms for years I highly doubted it. I was never given a chance to ask any questions or confirm what he had said as he spoke in to a dictaphone instead of to/with me which left me feeling confused. My appointments were rushed and I will be requesting a different consultant after my second appointment with this doctor.

Response from Mr Clemens Von Widekind

Is this the same person? The language and them is the same as comment 12/11/2017. I was at the time Divisional Director at NGH with a responsibility for about 1000 health care professionals and was therefor obliged to take calls, when possible, So fare in 8 years of management people understood that I receive calls that are work related. I always dictate in the presence of the patient as this gives them transparency and the opportunity to listen to my summary of the consultation. There is very good evidence that shows that a ultrasound examination in itself is so reassuring that patients stop being in pain and that one can avoid surgery/laparoscopy. I do take pain seriously and therefor she was not discharged but given a follow-up appointment.
